Chebeague Cares enables elders to continue living in their own homes by providing assistance with daily activities such as preparing meals, light housekeeping, laundry, medication reminders and personal care.
Our caregivers also offer companionship, chaperone to medical appointments, respite for family caregivers and short-term care during recovery.
In-home care services are open to anyone living in Casco Bay, Chebeague Island, and the Greater Yarmouth area. Services are based on an assessment to determine each person’s level of care and staffing needs. Support may include rise and shine, visits personal care and companionship.
Care is provided by Island Commons Certified Personal Support Specialists (PSS). Caregivers are matched with clients based on their needs and personal compatibility.
Visits are a minimum of three hours. Please inquire for current rates.
In-home care services may be covered by long-term care insurance. Financial assistance may also be available based on eligibility.

Our History
More than 25 years ago, the Island Commons, was born out of a commitment to provide comfort and care to island elders. A handful of Chebeague Islanders recognized the need for a safe, home-like environment for those no longer able to live independently. They worked vigorously to create the Island Commons, an assisted living facility on Chebeague Island, allowing our residents to stay in the place they love and close to family. We are proud to be regarded as a leader in eldercare in Maine.
The Commons has expanded to fill a need for in-home care within our community by creating Chebeague Cares, which provides support to those who still reside in their homes. Our dedicated team offers personalized support to enhance the quality of life for individuals. Our compassionate caregivers promote independence and dignity to those requiring a little help at home.
